BYD is recalling 97,000 units due to a technical error that poses fire risks.
The Chinese’s largest automaker is recalling Dolphin and Yuan Plus EVs between November 2022 and December 2023 for containing a faulty steering control unit, according to a statement from the State Administration for Market Regulation.
BYD dealers will address the issue at no cost to customers.
Both models were its best-selling in 2023 or 3 million units sold in a quarter according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

BYD, backed by American investor Warren Buffett, has been rapidly expanding overseas since last year, with distribution outlets set up in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
