Toyota launched the cheapest EV in China to take on BYD and it’s 65% Chinese.

According to Toyota China: Toyota looks to make a comeback while competing with China giant giant BYD other low-cost leaders. March 6^th, 2025 Toyota launched its cheapest EV in China, the bZ3X, starting at roughly $15,100 or Riel 60,430,200 (Without import taxes and duties). Its maximum range is 610km which means you can around a round trip from Phnom Penh to Sihaknoukville with a single charge. The new electric SUV crashed the server with over 10,000 orders in an hour.

bZ3X main component shared with GAC Aion V such as motors, size, drives, but batteries different. It is a 5-door and seats 5 comfortably with dimensions of 4600/1850/1600 mm and a 2765 mm wheelbase. The FWD has only one electric motor with a max output of 150 kW or 165 kW and the max speed of 160 160 km/h.

Its Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery offers three variants: 50 kWh, 58.4 kWh, and 67.9 kWh, which offer 430 km, 520 km, and 610 km respectively.

bZ3X equipped with lidar and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) from Chinese autonomous driving startup Momenta.

The 520 Pro and Pro+ have versions with lidar from Robosense and Momenta 5. assisted driving tech, while the top trim 610 Max has optional lidar and Momenta 5.0 ADAS. The rest of trims come with standard Toyota Pilot driver assistance. Momenta 5.0 enables bZ3X to have the NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) function without needing HD maps

The interior look as sleek as Tesla with a Toyota’s price, with a 14.6” screen. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, with most of new EVs are already equipped with the more powerful Snapdragon 8295.
The lidar-equipped trims feature the Nvidia Orin X chip with 254 TOPS of computing power. Toyota also claims that bZ3X is the first car from the joint venture in China to feature lidar.
bZ brand in China which already delivered bZ3 sedan and bZ4X, they are not as bad as you would expect.
